At age 9, he moved to Maryland from Utah with his parents and three siblings. His passion for dentistry began as a high school student, working part time as a chairside dental assistant in Elkton, Maryland. Following graduation from Elkton High School, he went on to study biology and chemistry, just up the road, at Towson University.
Dr. Swauger received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He completed an oral surgery clerkship and was a member of the Gamma Pi Delta Prosthodontic Honor Society. Dr. Swauger was given the unique opportunity to provide treatment to severely underserved communities in Honduras, during a dental mission trip. He was an active participant of numerous extracurriculars including the dental schools admissions committee, clinical advisory board, implant dentistry interest groups, and several elective courses.
Following graduation from dental school, Dr. Swauger completed an additional year of training at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. Completion of this optional hospital-based residency program allowed continued development as a competent practitioner and widened his scope of practice. Dr. Swauger strongly values continuing education and is currently a member of the Academy of General Dentistry, Maryland State Dental Association, and American Dental Association. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with family, boating, cars, sports, exercise, and tinkering with anything mechanical. Dr. Swauger is excited to meet the needs of his patients at Timonium Dental.
